Like all our power products, these downpipes are dyno developed.
That is an important distinction to be made, as the AWD configuration of the 4.2L V8 S4 precludes most exhaust manufacturers from knowing at all if their products are producing the power claims they are making. AWD dynamometers are still relatively rare, but we have one in house. There are a lot of power claims out there from exhaust manufacturers, but we are one of the very few that can back up our claims 100%.
And not only are our downpipes thoroughly tested and documented, but our construction is second to none. Featuring genuine German HJS metal core catalytic converters, all stainless steel construction, smooth bore flex joints, and proper bracketry, these downpipes will outlast your car.
We know of no other exhaust manufacturer that takes the time to hand finish each and every of their welds internally, where smooth flow is critical. Look closely: you may find that only the clearly visible welds at the inlets or outlets of some systems are ground down smooth, but even the welds you cannot easily see on AWE Tuning systems are finished for flow.
Our exhaust products also feature butt-welded junctions instead of overlapped tubes, and all our flange openings are size matched to their ports.

Below are pictures, dyno sheets, and sound tests of our downpipes. By adding our downpipes, peak gains were ~9 crank hp and ~9 crank torque on our test B6 S4 already equipped with our cat back exhaust, and a gain of ~12 crank hp at 6700 was realized. This means a very tangible seat-of-the-pants improvement that only gets better the higher you rev.
Coupled with our Cat Back Exhaust System, you have increased your power by 7% just through a bolt on modification. Add the GIAC Flashloader Chip, and you're over a 10% gain and at almost 380 crank horsepower!
